Welcome to my photography site, I have been involved in photography since an early age, starting off in the late 1960's with my father, who himself was a keen amateur photographer, using black and white film. Back in those days I can remember building enlargers out of old metal Shell Oil cans and making bellows etc to fit the enlarger lens on to using cloth and plywood, then blacking out the old outhouse for an evening of magical printing, I then progressed on to colour processing in the late 70's, both negative and slide, too much hassle though for me so I went back to b&w for a few more years then other commitments came along but eventually I came back to photography.

This all seems a long time ago now and with the advent of digital imaging those days are now long gone, not sure it's the same fun these days sitting in front of the PC but it's certainly easier and much more social - despite what my wife might say! I now spend my time professionally guiding for Pike on the Norfolk Broads plus enjoying photography again, some of my prints are for sale and I am always willing to undertake commissions, just contact me for further details. I also now offer photographic trips in the Norfolk area, if your interested in this then again please contact me for further details.

I hope you enjoy this site, photography is definitely in the eye of the beholder, yes there are rules but like all rules they are made to be broken and I think this is especially so in photography.

Out with the old and in with the future - Digital is here to stay regards to photoshop with the Glamour and portrait work I undertake Photoshop is top of the list for editing software, for some less enthusiastic maybe the cut down elements. Can't imagine having to stand there in the dark room masking to dodge and burn when the same net result can be achieved and more importantly repeated time again with precision in the comfort of a chair and PS. And what about toning a mono remember the smell of sepia chemicals I know which I would prefer..............

allan-g Digital Photography Is It As Good As Film? 0 Sep 10 2008, 7:15 AM EDT by allan-g

Now we are most definitely in the Digital Imaging age are our images as good as the old days of film? Without doubt digital has made life a lot easier 'we probably all now take many more images then ever before, it's easy, it's cheaper and much more cost effective however do we all print these images or do we leave them stuck on a hard drive or cd/dvd and never look at them again And what about processing, in the old days, blacking out the temp dark room, the smell of the chemicals and the anticipation of seeing the image appearing on the paper as it's developed was something else - is it the same using Photoshop, Gimp or something similar?

Personally I would say yes it's as good and without doubt much easier and cheaper, true some of the imaging programs are somewhat involved and some are very expensive but does the normal photographer need the likes of Photoshop? without doubt no.
